Standalone solar power systems

Standalone solar power systems are self generating power systems that are not connected to mains electricity. These systems are typically in remote areas or in places that are not accessible to mains power.

Greenway Energy can provide a comprehensive service for the design and construction of stand alone power systems. Greenway Energy can also expand or up date an existing stand alone system to meet your power demands.

Greenway Energy has in-house electrical engineers and qualified installers witch are accredited with the Clean Energy Council.  Greenway Energy can roll out the complete installation of a standalone system from inception to the commissioning of the system. Greenway Energy can also help with the applications for grants or as consultants. All stand alone systems are designed to keep greenhouse emissions to a minimum and to be of low impact to the environment.

Greenway energy can design stand alone systems varying from a small size holiday home system to a high demand industrial application for mining in remote areas.

Standalone power usually consists of:

  • A charging source this may include a solar photovoltaic, a wind turbine or generator.
  • A regulator to supply a suitable voltage to charge Deep Cycle batteries.
  • A battery bank which is used for energy storage.
  • An inverter which is used to convert dc power from the battery bank to 240volt AC electricity to power common appliances.
  • A battery charger may also be used to charge the batter bank and help with maintenance.

A stand alone systems can vary considerably there are many factors in designing a stand alone system for example the size of load, the length of time of the load and the time of day or night of the load (solar panels don't work very well at night). A generator may be incorporated into the system.
