Government to slash solar rebates even further
– get in now!

The federal government has announced it is effectively reducing the Solar Credits rebate even further from July.

Currently, the solar multiplier (which determines the level of rebate) is set at 5 and was to be reduced to 4 from July 1 this year. Now, it is being dropped to 3 from July, which means that users will receive fewer solar credits for their systems, and reduces the rebate they can claim by up to $2,000. By July 2013, there will be no multiplier at all.

At Greenway Energy, we’re disappointed in the government’s lack of commitment to supporting renewable energy, and encourage you to install your solar power system while additional rebates are still in place. 

Reduced solar rebate from July 2011

Don’t miss out on the maximum possible rebate for your new solar panels! The government has announced it will be reducing the rebate you can get through its Solar Credits scheme from July 2011. At the moment, you can claim up to $1000 for your solar hot water system. If you haven’t already claimed, you have up to two months after you install your new solar hot water system to apply for the rebate. Avoid the last-minute rush and get in now!

Parliament to be solar powered

The Australian government has announced plans to use a 42-kilowatt array of panels to provide solar hot water for gardener sheds and power lighting in the Senate area. Senior departmental officer Liz Bryant said the panels were expected to save about $9500 in yearly power bills and 53.2 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year. The government apparently spends about $3 million a year on powering Parliament House, and with rising energy costs that will only increase. Department of Parliamentary Services secretary Alan Thompson said, "We are trying to understand how to use alternative technology to keep our energy costs down ... and hopefully reduce greenhouse gases."
